Our local and global community have a
plastic problem. We want you to do something about it! Have a look at the facts
below:
1)
10 million metric tonnes of plastic
waste end up in our seas and oceans each year. This is the same weight as about
2 million elephants- imagine that!
2)
Plastic takes thousands of years to decompose
and rot away!
3)
There is an enormous pile of plastic
waste floating in the Pacific Ocean which is now larger than France!
4)
It is predicted that by 2050 there will
be more plastic in the oceans than fish.
5)
Some of our sealife is dying due to the
fact that these vulnerable creatures are eating the plastic which poisions
them.
6)
Hounslow Borough Council do not collect
recycling from schools!
Task: We are asking all children at Chatsworth to
work together as a community to write a letter to Hounslow Borough Council to PERSUADE them to start collecting
recycling from schools in the borough. Your letter should give at least three
reasons why they should collect recycling from schools. You may decide to write
a paragraph for each reason. Try to include persuasive sentence starters
(Surely you agree that…..Everybody knows that….I strongly believe that….) and
rhetorical questions (How would you feel if…? Don’t you know that….?) Please
write your letter on PAPER.
You do not need to include any addresses
on your letter as we will send a covering letter as a school. You could set out
the letter as below:
